Wound healing through gel derived platelets
A platelet-derived gel would be very effective for wound healing, not only would a shorter time, but also in better quality than with conventional methods.
The study was conducted by U.S. researchers and consisted of taking blood samples from eight healthy patients over 21 years, then they made 5 wounds from 4 mm to 3 cm from the thighs. They were then applied to one side the autologous platelet gel, and the other antibiotic ointment or bandages.
The wounds were monitored for 6 months and at the end of that period took skin biopsies from each leg wounds. The results showed that at 17 days, the wounds treated with autologous gel were closed by 81% while thosetreated conventionally closed by 57%.
The researchers concluded that autologous platelet gel may improve treatment of deep dermal wounds, however it is very early to venture and more research is needed to start implementing it permanently.
